General Information

Incorporation: Woodland Port District, created by local taxpayers in October, 1960.

Voting District: District encompasses the Lewis River Valley and the City of Woodland and includes approximately 12,000 residents.

Current tax rate: $0.29 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Annual Revenue: $990,000 in 2011 (including $216,000 from property tax receipts).

Three port commissioners – elected from three distinct districts with in the Woodland Port District. Commissioners serve six year terms. Port commissioner positions are non-partisan. No term limits.

Engagement Opportunities

  • Port Commission meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Room at the Port of Woodland Office.
  • Residents of the Woodland Port District may run for port commissioner.

Notes of Special Interest

  • Ports, per the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), have the authority to collect tax monies from an allocation of property tax funds collected from the port district.
  • The uses of property tax proceeds by the Port of Woodland, by port policy, are limited to fund capital improvements, environmental remediation and repayment of debt.
  • The Port of Woodland owns approximately 200 acres of light industrial property, as well as roughly 320 acres of Columbia River waterfront property for recreational purposes.
  • Approximately 250 people work at companies located on Port of Woodland properties.
