General Information

Incorporation: Ridgefield Port District, created by local taxpayers in 1940.

Voting District: District covers approximately 57 square miles (36,480 acres) in the Ridgefield area. Approximately 12,000 people live in the 4,500-plus households within the port district.

2008 tax rate: $0.16 per $1,000 of assessed property value ($32 on property assessed at $200,000).

Mission: “To responsibly deliver property and facilities that encourage private investments, job creation and local economic diversity and stability; to preserve and better the quality of life for citizens of the greater Ridgefield area.”

Form of Government

Elected commission.

Elected Officials

The Port of Ridgefield is governed by a three-member port commission. They are elected by a vote of the people and serve a six-year term. The port is administered by an executive director that is appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Port commissioner positions are non-partisan. No term limits.

Engagement Opportunities

  • The port holds regularly scheduled open public meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. Meetings are held at the Port of Ridgefield Administration offices located at 111 West Division Street in downtown Ridgefield. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend.
